journeyPod live at the AVP Manhattan Beach Open

Often referred to as the “Grand Daddy of all Beach Volleyball Tourneys”, the Manhattan Beach Open is the SuperBowl of beach volleyball. The winners get their names on the Manhattan Beach Pier. It’s the place everyone wants to win!

Reigning Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers were foiled in their attempt to become the first team in nearly 25 years to win four straight Manhattan Beach titles. They lost in the semifinals to Matt Olson and Kevin Wong. Third seeds and Beijing Olympians Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal won the men’s title, 21-17, 23-21, over Olson and Wong, the fifth seed. For the Women, Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs won the AVP Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open Sunday. Branagh/Youngs beat third-seeded Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan, 21-17, 21-14, to win the title.

journeyPod was court side for the event this past weekend and had a chance to chat with some of the athletes. Here’s what “Triple J” and “Netty” had to say to journeyPod:

Davis: Fiji
Jordan: Any place tropical

Where’s your favorite spot to play?
Davis: Brazil–the fans are so fun there
Jordan: Definitely Southern CA, and here at Manhattan Beach

What three things do you always travel with?
Davis: My iphone, my iphone, and my iphone
Jordan:  My computer, iPod and a book
